Katie Holmes appeared on the Today show on Wednesday to promote her upcoming movie The Giver, but she also opened up a little about her personal life.

Anchor Matt Lauer indirectly asked Holmes, 35, about her high-profile marriage to Tom Cruise. The two - who wed in 2006 and welcomed Suri that same year - divorced in 2012. Holmes' fame skyrocketed during her marriage to one of Hollywood's most famous actors.

Would Holmes trade some of the fame she gained during her relationship and go back to her life before? It doesn't seem like it.

"I never really look back," Holmes told Lauer. "I take it one day at a time and I'm really excited about where I am right now... I'm just excited about the future."

Holmes is also focused on her 8-year-old daughter and wants to give her the same positive childhood she experienced growing up with her family in Ohio.

"I try very hard because I'm very grateful for my upbringing," Holmes said. "And I try to do what they did for me for my little one. The most important thing for me is letting her know how proud I am and that her accomplishments mean everything... It's really just about her."

The Giver, also starring Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges, comes to theaters on Aug. 15. Holmes will also appear as the title character in Miss Meadows coming to theaters this fall.
