According to Deadline on Monday, the new series Rain will be based on the book series by Barry Eisner.

Reeves is set to produce the project, as well as star in the series as John Rain, a hitman of American and Japanese descent. Reeves is said to have Asian origins in his background, which could perhaps have been the inspiration for some of his films from 2013, including 47 Ronin and his directorial debut Man of Tail Chi.

"As a huge fan of Barry's work, I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to bring this iconic character and incredible world to life," noted Reeves, "I'm looking forward to partnering with Slingshot on my new series."

Slingshot, in turn, seems thankful to have the star in their corner for the new show.

"We are extremely excited to be working on a beloved property with such a talented and hard-working actor as Keanu," declared Slingshot's David Slender. "This series will be the launch pad for the company and highlight our talent focused, quality-based approached within the ever-changing and expanding television space."

Since the program has yet to score a writer to adapt the series and Reeves is the only actor who's been cast, production is a long way off. At this time, the series does not have a release date.
