Television's latest comic-book adaptation took center stage at Comic-Con in San Diego this weekend as producers sat down to discuss NBC's Constantine.

'The Originals' Star Joseph Morgan Talks Matt Ryan In 'Constantine'

NBC released a trailer for the new series nearly two months ago, but producers revealed a new preview at Comic-Con Saturday which teased out more of the tone and plot. Fans who were there for the screening were thrilled with what they saw, which included glimpses of John Constantine (Matt Ryan) in action. "Not all souls go gently into the night," he warned one skeptic, and based on some of the images from the preview, this seems to be an understatement.

The series, based on the DC Comic series Hellblazer, stars Matt Ryan (Armistice) as the chain-smoking cynic who fights dark and sinister supernatural forces on earth. Producers Daniel Cerone and David Goyer discussed their approach to the series during the show's panel on Saturday.

"We really wanted to present the reality in the show," Cerone told NBC, adding that they wanted the series to be "as compelling and real as possible."

While many fans are already familiar with the 2005 Constantine film starring Keanu Reeves and Tilda Swinton, Goyer assured fans that they plan to stay true to their source material. "The best writers have been writing 'Constantine' for the past 25 years," he told them, "We're going old school."

Constantine premieres on NBC Friday, October 24.
