Katie Holmes' New Magazine Cover, Interview Day Before Divorce Filings

Katie Holmes was photographed for the cover of "C" magazine for its September issue just seven days before she filed for divorce. The interview for the cover story took place only one day prior to her big announcement.

"There's really no way we could have known, she was in such great spirits," said Jenny Murray, editor of "C" magazine. According to "C" magazine, Murray told Entertainment Tonight that the former star of "Dawson's Creek"  told her, "I'm ready to take on some more challenging roles. I feel like I worked so much at such a young age that I really wanted to have life experiences. I feel more balanced and that I have more to bring to the table."

"Going back over the tapes, there were signs: Holmes was certainly very aware of herself, laying a couple cards on the table but never showing her whole hand," Murray said in an interview with fashion trade publication WWD. "Most noticeably, the one name decisively absent from her lexicon: Tom Cruise. She never actually refers to him by name over pages and pages of transcription."

WWD also reports that Holmes has been on a post-divorce press tour, talking less about relationships and more about acting (she's been cast in a Broadway play), and the fourth season of her fashion brand, Holmes & Yang. Holmes will present a fashion show for the line for the first time at the Bowery Hotel in September. Holmes met her stylist and the brand's co-designer Jeanne Yang through Tom Cruise. Yang had been his stylist for years.

This is not the first magazine Holmes has appeared on the cover of a magazine very quickly after she filed for divorce from Cruise. Katie took photos and was interviewed for the cover of ELLE magazine's August issue six weeks before she filed the petition.

According to ELLE, Katie's interview with the fashion magazine "seemingly hinted that the marriage was near its end."

Photographer Carter Smith who took Katie's pictures was quoted as saying that "Katie didn't speak about Tom in a lovey dovey way at all. She deflected the Tom questions and brought them around to herself."

The September issue of "C California Style" magazine arrives on newsstands August 21.
