Baker spends most of his time portraying Patrick Jane in front of the camera, but the actor has a penchant for directing as well. Despite a truncated 13-episode season, Baker will find time to take the helm for episode 5.
Writer Jordan Harper previously denied to confirm which episode the series titular character would take charge of, but Harper turned in the finale script for episode 5 on Monday and quickly took to Twitter to confirm Baker's off-screen involvement.
Baker is no stranger to directing on The Mentalist - the actor has directed one episode a season since season 3. Starting with "Red Moon" in 2010, the actor later went on to make "Blinking Red Light," "Red Sails in the Sunset," and "My Blue Heaven."
While viewers await Baker's creation, The Mentalist will kick off season 7 with "Nothing But Blue Skies," "The Greybar Hotel," "Orange Blossom Ice Cream," and "Pink Rocks."
