"I had some really great scenes with Paul [Wesley] not too long ago, like last week," Somerhalder told Entertainment Weekly in a new interview. "You definitely see some great stuff with those boys. It's good when they're not at one another's throats."

Interestingly, Wesley previously revealed that his character won't be much of a help finding his brother.

Alaric Returns For Season 6 & Shares 'Grief' With Elena?

"He takes off, he leaves town and he decides that he doesn't want to have any part," Wesley told TVFanatic.com at Comic-Con in San Diego in July. "We think that he's searching for Damon and Bonnie. We think that he's being proactive but in reality he's gone. He's doing his thing and he's completely disinterested, he's apathetic, he's given up."

TVGuide.com recently confirmed that Stefan won't be anywhere near Mystical Falls when the new season premieres. "In fact, he will have taken up a surprising new profession in his new 'home,'" the website noted.

In addition, Elena (Nina Dobrev) will be distraught that Damon is gone. In the 20-second first trailer, fans get a glimpse of her grief after losing the love of her life. The opening scene shows Stefan telling Elena over the phone, "Damon's gone. You need to say good bye to him." However, it's clear she can't let him go.

Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries premieres on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 8/7c on The CW.
