Before Carrie Underwood announced that she was pregnant in September, she sat down with Chris Destefano and wrote the first single for her highly anticipated 2014 album Greatest Hits: Decade #1.

Underwood has her own cabin in Tennessee dedicated to songwriting, and according to CMT on Tuesday that's exactly where the singer was when she came up with the idea for her latest single Something in the Water.

"I played Carrie and Brett [James] this music," explained DeStefano. "And Carrie was immediately like, 'I've got this title and concept I've been wanting to write.'"

With Underwood's lyrics and DeStefano's music, the pair put together what they felt was a very special track for both of them.

"I remember it like it was yesterday, getting chill bumps when she said that title," continued DeStefano. "It felt so right with the music."

When they went in to record the song, it became an emotional experience all around. "By the end of that day, we were cranking it up on the speakers and had our hands in the air," Destefano added. "We definitely went to church that day. I can't tell you how many times it brought me to tears. Countless times. Just constantly. It's a powerful thing."

Something In The Water has proven itself to be just as satisfying commercially as it has been personally. An official statement on the singer's site on Oct. 7 revealed that the song has gone on to be the "best-selling first-week single of her career."

"The sales figure also marks the best opening-week sales of any female country artist in 2014," continued the statement, noting that Something In The Water debuted on Billboard at no. 17 and was featured on 144 radio stations when it premiered.

Greatest Hits: Decade #1 is set to hit stores on Dec. 9.
