Joel McHale is known for his unapologetic and humorous critique of various celebrities on E!'s The Soup. Yet, the comedian, who has hosted the show for 10 years, said he's never had an awkward encounter with any of the famous people he's criticized, including reality star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi.

"We used to just destroy that poor show," he told Enstars.com of MTV's Jersey Shore. "And she couldn't have been nicer."

Most recently, the comedian was one of many who paid tribute to Robert De Niro during the actor’s honoring at the Friars Foundation’s annual gala in New York City earlier this month. Just like in his speech at the White House Correspondent's Dinner in May, McHale teased De Niro for his willingness to appear in almost any movie.

"This has been a wonderful celebration of the career of Robert De Niro, although there was an awkward moment earlier when Mr. De Niro was handed a menu, and he immediately signed on to star in it," McHale said during the honoring on Oct. 7. "We all know that there is only one actor in the world that can play the role of pastrami sandwich - it's him."

However, McHale’s jokes were all meant to be lighthearted. In fact, he's a huge De Niro fan.

“It wasn't really a roast; it was actually called a tribute," he said while promoting his involvement in Canon's Pixma Pro City Senses tour in October. "I followed - of all people - Aretha Franklin and she sure didn't roast him. I made a bunch of jokes because that's what I did at the White House Correspondent's Dinner and he couldn't have been cooler.”

When asked who else McHale would like to put in the hot seat, the 42-year-old named two more critically acclaimed actors - Daniel Day-Lewis and Meryl Streep. "I'll go for the greatest actors in the world," he added.
