When "Drumline" hit the box office in 2002, an entire audience was exposed to the inner workings of what it's like to be a part of a marching band at an HBCU for a young man, but this time, Vh1 reprised the story with a little more girl power.

Alexandra Shipp plays "Dani", a young woman from Brooklyn who wants to play for Atlanta A&T in "Drumline 2: A New Beat." The Vh1 original is not a sequel, but it is a modernized, tweaked version of the Nick Cannon's journey as Devon Miles. In fact, his character even makes an appearance in the highly anticipated television original.

There's a lot of drumming and drama, just as there was in the first, but this time around the drama is also happening with the adults. Actress and former Destiny's Child member Letoya Luckett plays a hard-working dean named Nia Phillips. She, along with Leonard Roberts' character Sean Taylor, attended the college in the past. Nia and Sean once dated, but their love story has a major twist that enhances their storyline and leaves viewers on the edge of their seat.

Still, the break out star and lead character will face and overcome challenges to complete her goal as the first girl to lead a drumline section.
