Simon Baker wants Patrick Jane to close The Mentalist on a tragic note.

Although actor Tim Kang already informed fans that season 7 will be the series' last, Baker carefully skirted the subject in a recent interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer. However, the CBS star did offer up his own Shakespearian plan for a finale.

"Personally, I think he's a tragic figure," Baker explained. "To me, when we were putting the character together in the very early days, he was a tragic character. Like all the great love stories-'Romeo and Juliet'-there's tragedy. I always felt that. But I get shouted down."

With Red John out of the picture and the Jisbon relationship in bloom, The Mentalist will enter a new stage during its final 13-episode run.

"We're probably into what, you would argue, is maybe the third [part] of the story arc. It's no longer about Red John. It's no longer about this unrequited love. It's now the next step," Baker said. "Whether that's the end of it, I don't know."
