It does not happen often - that the enemy of the U.S. is actually another American.

Even so, in the Olympic women's beach volleyball finals on Wednesday, Aug. 8, two U.S. teams will go head to head to win the gold medal and be the ones to represent their country.

Misty May-Treanor and her partner Kerri Walsh Jennings secured their spot in the finals on Tuesday, beating China all around with a 22-20 and reaching their third consecutive gold medal . Now they will have to meet U.S. players April Ross and Jennifer Kessy on the sand and see who can claim the final gold.

Ross and Kessy, also on Tuesday, beat reigning world champions from Brazil with 15-21, 21-19 and 15-12.

"We just defeated the best team in the world for the past year. These Chinese women are great athletes," Walsh Jennings said after Tuesday's win. "We know we have this in us, we've just got to go execute.

May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings already have two Olympic gold medals together and want their third, making Wednesday's competition no easy trip for their competitors. Ross and Kessy are both making their Olympic debuts this summer but together they won the 2009 World Championships.
