Big Paybacc was shot and killed while eating at a McDonald's in Palmdale, Calif. on Thursday. The West Coast rapper, whose real name is Habeeb Ameer Zekajj, was 38.

"There was no altercation that the [witnesses] saw," L.A. County Sheriff's Department Lt. John Corina told CBS News. "This guy just walked in through one door, shot him and left out another door. So it looked like something personal. He had something against this individual. It wasn't like he shot up the McDonald's. He just shot him and left."

The shooting took place at 12:30 p.m. and the suspect took off by foot.

The rapper's girlfriend, Jessica Jefferson, was devastated by the news.

"I had just seen him. He left my house to come here," she told the publication. "For them to be that bold to run up to someone in a McDonald's in daylight, in front of people, kids you know, and to just take some kind of vengeance on somebody, it's, it's inhumane."

Jefferson, who said the two planned to move in together, added, "Everybody loves him, and he's a good rapper, and he has so many followers, and people who stand behind him. He really is a good, solid person."

The Gangsta Luv rapper is survived by three children.

Friends took to social media to remember Big Paybacc, including fellow rapper Kenneth Mclaren, who shared an Instagram photo of the two from a 2011 video shoot.

"People tend to judge us from the life we chose & music we make.. But when you get to know a person it comes To find out that their actually a Decent human being, that wants to make a change in the world," he wrote in the caption.
