Less than an hour ago, East Germany held the world record for the fastest time in the 4x100-meter women's relay, with a mark of 41.37.

Well not anymore.

Team USA won gold at the 4x100-meter race on Aug. 10 and also set a new world record time with a mark of 40.82. The teammates could not yell any louder from excitement as fans in the audience drew out their American flags and waved it proudly while cheering on the winners.

USA holds the record for the most track and field medals from the 2012 Games, and for good reason. They ranked in the no.1 spot in round one of the relay with a time of 41.64 seconds and in the finals, their contenders from Jamaica, who many believed were their stiffest competition, came in second with 41.41 seconds. The silver medalists were not even close to the time marked by America but they did set a new national record for their country.

Representing Team USA was Tianna Madison, Allyson Felix, Bianca Knight, Carmelita Jeter.

Friday's win was the first medal win at the 2012 Olympics for both Madison and Knight.  Felix won gold in London's 200-meter finals and Jeter got the bronze in the same event as well as the silver in the 100-meter finals.
