With the 2012 London Olympic Games coming to a close on Sunday, August 12, the United States will surely go out on an unprecedented high note.  The 1st place country currently leads the overall medal count 104-87 and the gold 29-27 against 2nd place China respectively.

America has been very successful at the Games to say the very least.  As expected, they have mauled their competition in sports such as swimming, women's beach volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball, amongst others.

While China has been almost seemingly neck and neck with the red, white and blues, they still were not able to duplicate their dominance in the 2008 Beijing Games.

On a positive note, they did prevail in competitions they've had a long history of dominance in such as badminton, gymnastics, diving, table tennis and weightlifting.  The issue with the populous nation was their failure to pull out crucial upsets in several underdog events to keep them atop the medal count.

Host country Great Britain has not been too shabby themselves, as they round out the number 3 spot in the count with 64 overall medals and 29 golds; the most in their celebrated history since 1908.

The Brits have indeed been impressive as they've landed a slew of gold medals which include equestrian, tennis, rowing, cycling and track & field.
