Miranda Lambert has become a country music superstar over the last year, but the much-adored artist admits that she isn't "sunshine and roses."

Miranda Lambert Scores Grammy Nominations In All 4 Country Categories

The Automatic singer, who is nominated in all four country categories at the Grammys this year, recently posed for the January cover of Marie Claire and during her featured interview the 31-year-old artist revealed that keeping her music her own hasn't always been easy.

"I had people wanting me to adjust my lyrics to be more appealing to the masses or whatever…" Lambert revealed of her early days in the industry. "I'd rather sell four copies of something that's real than four million copies of something that's fake."

Why Miranda Lambert's New Figure Might Not Be Helping Her Career

As for remaining positive under the scrutiny of being a highly public figure, Lambert admitted that husband and fellow country artist Blake Shelton is essential to keeping her from falling too deep. "I'm not sunshine and roses," she explained. "Blake's the happiest person on the planet. He pulls me out of my darkness… Literally, everything is the best about being married."

By nature, the singer has always been an uneasy soul. "I'm always anxious," she noted. "I will worry myself into oblivion. I was trying to make everything regimented, and it caused too much stress."

Eventually Lambert decided to sit back a little and not fixate on making things flawless. Easing up hasn't affected her determination though. Even with her own insecurities, Lambert has always been a force to be reckoned with.

"When I first started playing bars in Texas, my parents had to come so I could get in," she revealed of her early career. "I didn't have any other plans. I didn't go to college. There was no, 'if this doesn't work out…' It was like: 'This has to work out.'"

The chance she took over 10 years ago definitely paid off. This year alone, Lambert went platinum with her hit single Somethin' Bad and scored big at the CMA Awards. Last week, the singer was honored at the CMT Artists of the Year ceremony.

With all the glitz and glam, Lambert maintains that she is still the same person at heart. "When I walk into a bar and smell old beer and cigarettes, it smells like home," she insisted. "Because that's where I grew up."
