Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese has planned for a while now to film a Frank Sinatra biopic and now he has gotten one step closer, by hiring "Hunger Games" writer Billy Ray to come up with the screenplay, according to The Huffington Post.

Sinatra, originally from Hoboken, NJ, acted in 64 films himself before dying at the age of 82 in 1998 from a heart attack.

The biopic was first announced in May of 2009 and since then, Scorsese has been trying to get together the perfect script for the film. Longtime friend of Scorsese's, Leonardo DiCaprio, has collaborated with the director on many films, including "Inception," "Shutter Island" and "The Departed." The actor was rumored to be cast as the lead role when the biopic would start filming but nothing has been officially announced.

Scorsese is currently directing DiCaprio in the film "The Wolf Of Wall Street," which also stars Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey and "The Silent Artist" actor Jean Dujardin, according to Deadline.com.

The title role of singer and actor Sinatra have not been discussed yet but it is also left to question who will play the other characters in film, those who had a notable part in Sinatra's life like Ava Gardner, Mia Farrow, Dean Martin, John J. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe, according to Deadline.

Many A-List actors and actresses have taken to playing the lead roles in biopics about some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Marilyn Monroe, Johnny Cash, artist Frida Kahlo, Edith Piaf, Selena and Julia Child are only some of the stars that have had films about their lives.

There is still no word on when shooting for the film will begin. Scorsese currently have a few films in development, including "The Irishman," a mob-inspired film starring Robert De Niro. The two will be reunited after first working together on "GoodFellas."
