Since the spin-off of radio program This American Life began it has garnered much attention. The Guardian reported today, Dec. 18, that Serial broke an Apple record.

Episodes of the podcast have been downloaded and streamed more than 5 million times from Apple's iTunes store.

Apple claimed this podcast is the fastest podcast to reach 5 million downloads and streams in iTunes' history.

Serial concluded its first season this morning. The season focused on the story of killed 17-year-old Hae Min Lee. Serial's host Sarah Koenig took listeners through the 1999 murder mystery week-by-week, ending with 12 episodes in all.

Koenig first learned about this case more than a year ago and in Season 1 of Serial she's looking for answers about Lee's death.
