IBN Live reported on Friday that Cameron Diaz said she was happy to take part in the new movie and that is was a great opportunity for her as she grew up with the movie.

"I grew up with Annie. The songs were something everybody knew. Even if you didn't see the movie, you knew the songs," she said.

Though she was a bit nervous about singing on film, she said this was a great time for her to broaden her horizons.

"Getting to do Annie was such a great opportunity -- one because you get to sing and dance which is something you never get to do -- and two, to make a movie that is for a new generation. To say, 'here you go, here's your Annie.' That's really awesome," Diaz said.

This is the third time Annie has been adapted, and the directors of the movie are hoping the newest will put a new spin on classical music.

As her role of Miss Hannigan, Diaz had to channel a sad, lonely part of her to pull off the character.

"What Miss Hannigan has to learn is that you have to love yourself, allow yourself to be loved, to be able to be happy," Diaz told Biography. "She's focused on the wrong things. She feels like her missed opportunity at fame has ruined her life. Therefore, what she's doing is she's earning this money as a foster mother, and she's spending it all on getting ready to be famous at any moment, having her make-up, her clothes, everything ready to go whenever they call her up."
