Rumor has it that rapper Bobby Shmurda died a violent death in jail, but it looks like that rumor is being cleared up.

On Sunday, Hollywood Life linked back to a site called Huzlers where it was claimed that Shmurda was stabbed to death by a cell mate. According to the site, the cell mate named Antwan Mauldin killed the rapper with a hidden pocket knife.

Hollywood Life noticed that a number of Twitter users have paid their respects towards Shmurda even though it looks like that's not necessary. Other sites were referenced that basically called the death story bogus.

He may not be dead, but according to Hip Hop DX, the rapper spent Christmas in jail after reportedly being arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder, assault in first degree, possession of weapons and more. The site said that he faces up to 25 years in prison for the conspiracy charges and up to 15 years for each of the weapon charges.

Shmurda's attorney Howard Greenberg told The FADER that the government apparently has a massive problem with rappers.

"The government hates rap and the government hates rappers," Greenberg said. "They construct a narrative and add rationalizations to make it seem true. They recruit guiltless and loveless people to whom truth is meaningless and convince them to say what they want to say. These people are jealous of a brother on the way up."
