Tatum's Gambit is slated for a release date of Oct. 7, 2016, as announced by Twentieth Century Fox this week, per The Hollywood Reporter. Writer Joshua Zetumer is writing the screenplay for the blockbuster.

As comic book fans know, Gambit is part of the X-Men universe and has the ability to create kinetic energy and is generally considered one of the cooler mutants, especially with the ladies. This fits pretty perfectly with Tatum, who has developed a reputation over the years as a good leading man.

Tatum will actually appear in X-Men: Apocalypse as well, which is also set for a 2016 release date. Gambit will be the ninth film in the X-Men franchise, which includes the original X-Men in 2000, X2: X-Men United in 2003, X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006, X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009, X-Men: First Class in 2011, The Wolverine in 2013 and X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014.

Deadpool (2016) and an untitled The Wolverine sequel are also expected after X-Men: Apocalypse and Gambit, set for release in 2017, in addition to an X-Force movie, which does not have a known release date yet.

It remains to be seen if Tatum's Gambit will be a breakout in X-Men: Apocalypse, which is slated for a May 27, 2016 release.
