"I was 17 when I started writing," revealed the Somethin' Bad singer during an interview with Gibson on Jan. 4. "My dad is a singer-songwriter, and he plays guitar. I felt I got it from him."

Lambert soon learned that not only did she enjoy writing her own songs, it was also a more organic experience than she would have expected. "It felt like the first thing that had ever come naturally to me," she explained. "It was something I didn't have to work really hard at, whereas I had to work hard at everything else I had done."

That's not to say the country star doesn't work when it comes to her music. She certainly gives it her all, but it does help that storytelling is a very natural process for her. "I think you can hone your skill," she added, "But I also think you're born with it. I'm always working to be a better songwriter and musician and singer, but it's truly something I had in my blood."

Even with the chaos that fame has brought into her life, deep down Lambert sees herself as a musician. "Everything starts and ends with music," she claimed in attempting to explain how she responds to the rumors which often surround her personal life.

Lambert kicked off her 2015 Certified Platinum Tour on Thursday, Jan. 15.
