Erica DePalo, a 33-year-old New Jersey High School teacher who was arrested for having sex with a 15-year-old student, posted a $100,000 bail on Tuesday.

DePalo, who was named Essex County's Teacher of the Year in 2011, was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

DePalo was the student's honors English teacher at a West Orange High School, according to authorities. The teacher and the student began the relationship around June 15 and lasted until Tuesday, authorities said, according to NJ.com.

DePalo was reportedly also the school's junior varsity tennis coach.

She has been suspended indefinitely and the school plans to have counselors available to students, the interim superintendent of the West Orange School District, Jim O'Neill, told FoxNews.com.

"The school district will cooperate with the prosecutor's office in every way," O'Neill told Fox. "The West Orange School District prides itself on being vested in the health, safety and welfare of our students."

Some people were commenting about the case on Facebook and seemed outraged at DePalo's actions.

"I truly believe that child molesters that offend in a position of "power" and people "paid to guide our children" should be given a harsh punishment. It is a teachers' duty to keep the children safe, and protected from the world. Mary Kay Letourneau thought there was nothing wrong with her actions, because in her sick mind, if a minor consented, it was okay. WRONG! T " Facebook user Kimberly Salvinski Garcia wrote.
