As Downton Abbey comes to a close, one of the show's leading stars admitted that it will not be easy to see this happen.

Actress Reveals Something 'Bittersweet' About 'Downton Abbey'

On Tuesday, Radio Times posted an interview with actor Hugh Bonneville who plays Lord Grantham on the series. He mentioned how it feels like the right time to end the show even though it's going to be heartbreaking.

"Series five was supposed to be the last one so this one is a bonus and it feels right for the story," Bonneville said. "Of course it's sad. We're filming the final episodes now. When we finish there'll be tears."

The actor also joked about what might happen in a Downton 1970s spin-off or in a feature film- based on his creative ideas, odds are likely that a spin-off or film will never happen.

"Great idea," he jokingly said. "I think we should combine those two thoughts. Let's make a film set in the 1970s in which Lord Grantham wears flares and a kipper tie. I can see it now."

Penelope Wilton, who plays Isobel Crawley on the British-American drama, also recently told Radio Times that it's the right time to let the series finish up.

"I'm not upset about it," she said. "When something has run its course, it's good to end on a high note."

Downton Abbey Season 6 is expected to premiere in the United States in January 2016 on PBS.
