Survivor host Jeff Probst has officially weighed in on the caustic relationship between Shirin and Will, and why the producers chose to show the storyline.

Will's intense personal comments to Shirin have been a topic of great controversy in the Survivor community. While some have questioned why Survivor would show such verbal abuse, Probst pointed out the honesty of the storyline.

Probst spoke with Entertainment Weekly on Thursday about Shirin vs. Will.

"I really can't imagine a scenario in which we would not show a scene like the one between Will and Shirin simply because we were afraid that viewers would be upset," Probst explained. "That's just not the way we approach the show. There is no denying that was a very difficult exchange to witness and no matter how many times you watch it, it does not get any easier or any less emotional. But, that level of honesty and vulnerability from people who have been stripped to their very core is a large part of the reason I am still excited to be a part of the show."

Probst also suggested that it's possible Will will take the live Reunion show as an opportunity to apologize to Shirin, in the wake of massive social media backlash.

"Nobody is ever happy when they see themselves in an unflattering light. We don't want to see ourselves that way," Probst observed. "But sometimes we say and do things that we wish we could take back. In Will's case, I am curious if, upon reflection he will choose to publicly apologize to Shirin at the live Reunion show."

Unfortunately for Shirin fans, she was voted out during Wednesday night's episode, though the story may not be over. If Will makes it to Final Tribal Council, Shirin and Will may confront their issues during the jury questioning.
