Fans of Days of Our Lives when Freddie Smith announced he was leaving the role of Sonny Kiriakis, but now, they may be able to meet the actor who could potentially be taking over the role.

Model and actor TJ Hoban took to social media May 6 to announce he would be joining the show's cast, and would have his first scenes air in October--but no specific details related to the role have been announced.

Just booked Days of our Lives. Starts filming next week, airs in Oct. Can't give details, so stay tuned;)

Because Smith's stint as Sonny is expected to wrap up over the summer, Hoban could potentially be a recast for him.

However, The Backlot speculates that he is not set to be the new Sonny Kiriakis (Hoban is 10 years older than Smith)--but he could be part of two other roles as well.

One other theory concerning his casting is that he could be a brother for Sonny, now that his on-screen parents, Adrienne (Judi Evans) and Justin (Wally Kurth) are back on the forefront of the show--meaning it would make for a good time to introduce another Kiriakis heir. If Sonny leaves and isn't recast, bringing a new sibling into the mix could open the show up to a new storyline.

Another possibility is that Hoban could be a more background role, like a new bellhop at the Salem Inn or a waiter at one of the town's clubs.

Days of Our Lives airs Monday-Friday at 1 p.m. on NBC.
