Once Upon a Time is officially coming back for a fifth season on ABC, and the network just released a plot synopsis for season 5.

ABC TV Fall Schedule Reveals 'The Muppets' Return

ABC picked up the fantasy series last week and just announced its placement on the fall TV schedule. Once Upon a Time will be returning to its regular Sundays at 8 p.m. timeslot, so fans do not have to adjust their DVRs.

With the Sunday night timeslot on lock, ABC also revealed what's in store for the fifth season of the beloved series.

ABC TV May Finale Dates For 'Scandal,' 'Grey's Anatomy,' Revenge' & More

"Master storytellers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz ('Lost,' 'Tron: Legacy') invite everyone to join Emma Swan [Jennifer Morrison], Snow White [Ginnifer Goodwin], Prince Charming [Josh Dallas], the Evil Queen [Lana Parrilla], Hook [Colin O'Donoghue], Rumplestiltskin [Robert Carlyle] and all the other resident fairy tale characters as they cope with Emma's new role as the dark one and they begin the search for Merlin," the synopsis reads.

As the synopsis alluded to, Emma did indeed turn to the dark side in the season 4 finale, which is one cliffhanger that will have fans wondering what's in store for next season. The show has seen many villains over the years, including Peter Pan (Robbie Kay), the Wicked Witch/Zelena (Rebecca Mader), Cruella de Vil (Victoria Smurfit) and more.

But perhaps none will compare to the ultimate power that is Emma.

Once Upon a Time just aired its season 4 finale on Sunday, May 10. The series will likely return in September.
