Survivor host Jeff Probst reveals how Kelly Wiglesworth is a perfect representative for a "second chance" season.

'Survivor: Worlds Apart' Winner Predicts How Joe & Shirin Will Do In Cambodia

Way back in the summer of 2000, 51 million Americans watched Kelly get blasted by friend turned enemy Sue Hawk during the finale of the first season of Survivor. Moments later, Kelly wound up losing the final jury vote to Richard Hatch by one vote.

Now, 15 years later, Kelly is back and ready to play Survivor for a second go round. She is part of the new cast of Survivor's 31st season, titled Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance. This season brings back 20 one-time players who did not win the game.

Who From 'Survivor: Cambodia' Do Fans Think Will The First To Be Sent Home?

Probst spoke with MTV recently about how Kelly exemplifies the entire purpose of doing this season.

"Kelly represents the idea behind the season," Probst explained. "What if she had gotten one more vote? What would have happened? What would have happened to 'Survivor,' and what would have happened to her life?"

Production is currently underway in Cambodia but fans will have to tune in and see what becomes of her this fall, when the season airs.

Heading into its 31st season, Survivor is stronger than ever. Probst compared the show to the HBO series Game of Thrones in explaining its enduring quality.

"You are holding the Wall at all times. Winter is coming. There's a new challenge to the throne every day - and you are the throne," Probst said, using terminology from the fantasy series. "You have to hold your ground. That sometimes means slaying somebody. Sometimes it means trusting somebody. Sometimes it means lying to somebody, or three people. But there are consequences for your actions. On one level, 'Survivor' is this devilishly entertaining show where you get to watch people get what they deserve - and sometimes, it's just the most joyful thing."

With 20 players hoping to finally take the title of Sole Survivor next season, it's possible that it might get even (metaphorically) bloodier than Game of Thrones.

Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance will premiere in the fall on CBS in its regular Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT timeslot.
