American Horror Story star Finn Wittrock recently explained how he got into the mindset of his creepy character.

Will 'American Horror Story: Hotel' Be The Darkest Season Ever?

Wittrock, who played the very disturbed Dandy Mott in American Horror Story: Freak Show, spoke with TheWrap recently about the role and how he related to Dandy.

"I was given the gift of a really outside the box character that you really don't get to do everyday," Wittrock said. "And the writers took a lot of big risks, like pushing this guy and pushing the envelope of what he could do."

He went on to say that it was all about finding that tiny bit of evil inside of him.

"How do I relate to bathing in my mother's blood? You kind of just find that little demon inside you and let him rip," he explained.

Wittrock became a fan favorite over the course of the season. Some are even speculating that he may receive an Emmy nomination for his performance. He spoke on that possible awards recognition and how he tries to stay focused on the craft over anything else.

"A lot of this business is trying to cancel out the noise and trying to focus on the real thing," he admitted. "So it's great, like it strokes your ego, but you kind of have to keep coming back to what is real."

The Emmy nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 16.

Meanwhile, Wittrock is also preparing to return for another season of American Horror Story. The new season is titled Hotel and will feature a subplot with Wittrock's character being in a love triangle with Lady Gaga and Matt Bomer's characters.

American Horror Story: Hotel is set to premiere in October on FX, though the network has not announced a premiere date yet.
