In their first public appearance together since news of her extramarital affair surfaced, Paula Broadwell and her husband Scott left Washington, D.C., Sunday and moved back into their Charlotte, S.C., home to face the scandal with their close family and friends.

Paula and Scott were spotted carrying their two young boys in their arms and walking into their home at around 5 p.m. on Sunday. Paula kept her head down and said nothing to reporters but Scott smiled and said the family did not have a comment but would have a statement "sometime soon," according to New York Daily News.

Scott came out again a few minutes later to get some groceries from his car. He joked with reporters that he would be taking out the trash on Tuesday, in case they wanted to get more footage of him.

The couple had been staying at Paula's brother's house in Washington, D.C., since the scandal broke on Nov. 9. Paula's extramarital affair with former CIA director David Petraeus also had the FBI investigating her computer regarding leaked classified information. FBI agents stormed Paula's home on Nov. 12 and walked out with boxes full of papers linked to the ongoing FBI investigation involving her extramarital affair and disturbing emails she sent to a friend of her lover's.

A law enforcement official said investigators found sensitive information on Paula's computer, but she told investigators that she did not receive the documents from Petraeus and some of the material may no longer be classified, according to The Associated Press.

A family friend said Paula "deeply regrets the damage" brought upon her family from the scandal, and how it ultimately led to Petraeus resigning as CIA director. The friend said the 40-year-old author is now trying to "focus on her family."

Petraues and Paula got close went she decided to write a biography about the general, who was the former commander of the U.S. forces in Afghanistan. For "All In: he Education of General David Petraeus," Paula spent a lot of time with Petraeus and was even with him in Afghanistan.
