It seems Trekkies know more about William Shatner's alleged Star Trek 3 role than the captain himself.

Captain Kirk, version 1.0, dropped by San Diego Comic-Con on Wednesday to recount tales from The Autobiography of James T. Kirk, and the panel quickly dovetailed into a Q&A regarding Justin Lin's Star Trek Beyond.

JJ Abrams' reboot sequence will debut its third installment in 2016, and, in the wake of Leonard Nemoy's (Spock) death, fans are wondering if Shatner will slip in to represent the original Enterprise crew. The actor, whose was originally written into the 2009 film but later removed after details of the scene were leaked, believes Trekkies are probably more primed to answer the query than himself.

"What do you know? Am I in the movie?" Shatner asked the audience, unable to confirm whether or not the script had been rewritten.

Even if Kirk Prime doesn't appear in the 2016 adventure, Shatner believes his character is in good hands with Chris Pine.

"It's horrible," the Priceline Negotiator joked when asked how it feels to have another actor taking on Kirk's mantel. "But [Pine's] wonderful. Damn him. He's young and he's handsome and he's rich. Young talented and rich. I'm very proud of him. He's a great kid."
