Pixels is a total bomb with critics - here's a sampling of what they have to say.

Watch These Final Robin Williams Films To Honor His Birthday

Pixels is the latest film to feature Adam Sandler and Kevin James, and like most of their films, it is being trashed by film critics. The film features Sandler, James, Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage as childhood friends who grow up playing arcade games. In the present, aliens misinterpret these arcade games as an act of war and proceed to attack Earth using classic video game characters as weapons.

James' character becomes president, and he enlists Sandler, Gad and Dinklage's characters to help fight the characters, which include PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede and Space Invaders.

Amy Schumer's 'Trainwreck' Dominates Box Office With 'Ant Man' And 'Minions'

The film has a rotten certification on Rotten Tomatoes, with many top critics bashing it.

Variety's Justin Chang calls it "a dimwitted '80s nostalgia trip best appreciated by those who have waited years for Adam Sandler's fine-grained intelligence and Chris Columbus' filmmaking mastery to finally converge."

The Hollywood Reporter's Todd McCarthy thinks it doesn't compare to Disney's Wreck-It Ralph, a similar video game-centric film. "Within the rarified realm of 1980s videogame nostalgia, Pixels is no Wreck-It-Ralph."

Meanwhile, Newark Star-Ledger's Stephen Whitty sees right through the film's inclusion of various film tropes, but doesn't see the passion behind it:

"You can see the calculations of the filmmakers - Hey, let's put in a cute kid! Let's add a funny animated sidekick! - but you can't see why they wanted to make this film in the first place."

A few critics are more favorable towards the film, though. Mike Reyes of CinemaBlend.com thinks it's the best Sandler film in some time.

"With thrilling action, stunning visuals, and some really well timed comedy; it's the best Adam Sandler film we've gotten in a while," he says.

Pixels is out in theaters nationwide now.
