Justin Bieber and his bodyguard were targeted for murder by a convicted killer presently serving time in New Mexico.

Dana Martin, 45, hired two men to castrate the 18-year-old pop singer with pruning clippers and have him strangled with a paisley print neck tie, according to a New Mexico police affidavit obtained by ABC News. Martin offered one of the hit men $2,500 for each testicle he received.

A fan of Bieber's who has an image of the Canadian star tattooed on his leg, Martin devised the grisly scheme after his attempts to contact the singer fell through. He also wanted to achieve fame by being responsible for the death of the teen heart throb.

Martn hired a former cellmate, Mark Staake, and his nephew Tanner Ruane to fulfill the plot against Bieber, his bodyguard and two unidentified people who reside in Vermont. The pair set off for Vermont on Nov. 14 to carry out the plan, intending to continue on to New York, according to the affidavit. They planned to catch Bieber between his Nov. 28 and 29 Madison Square Garden concerts in New York.

Staake and Ruane were caught before the plans could be carried out. They were stopped by a border control agent after they missed a highway exit in Vermont near the border of Canada. Staake was arrested on the spot for outstanding warrants and the agent found pruning shears in the vehicle, the affidavit revealed.

Ruane was released at the time but then arrested for attempted murder after local authorities overheard a phone call he had with Martin. The conversation allegedly made references to the grisly plans regarding Bieber and they referred to the murders as "the whole putting down of the dogs.'"

Prison officials confronted Martin and he confessed to the plan. He even gave them a hand-drawn map containing details of where the hired hit men had been traveling before they were caught.

Together, all three men will be charged with two counts each of conspiracy to commit murder and two counts each of conspiracy to commit aggravated battery, Lt. Robert McDonald of the New Mexico State Police told ABC.

Staake was released from prison in October after he served time for burglary. Martin is serving a sentence of 978 years in jail for a 2000 conviction for rape and murder at the Southern New Mexico Corrections Facility.

Bieber's rep released a statement to ABC News regarding the allegations: "We take every precaution to protect and ensure the safety of Justin and his fans."
