One of the stars of Downton Abbey revealed how emotional he felt when his final days on set came about.

On Sunday, Mirror posted a report on Jim Carter who plays Carson on the series. He mentioned that the final episode of the series will be "satisfying" with stories tied up. He then opened up on what some of the people were doing as the cast and crew experienced their final moments of the story.

"All the servants were together in the servants' hall," Carter said. "It was New Year's Eve, it was candle-lit, there were little Christmas decorations left over, it was dark and we were quietly singing Auld Lang Syne. That was a nice, low-key rather muted end to the thing."

The actor added that he and his co-stars were "a mess" when the series made its wrap.

"I felt I should say something to the crew on behalf of the cast," Carter said. "I said, 'Guys, I can't thank you enough.' Then I completely choked up."

Carter also spoke to BBC about his final days on set and the type of feeling that surged through him.

"It came to and end and they said, 'That's it for the servants, thank you very much,' and I thought someone should say something to the crew," the actor said. "I looked up and saw all their knackered faces and they work so hard and I thought, 'Oh my I'm really going to miss them' and I went...I filled up completely and hopelessly."

Downton Abbey Season 6 premieres in the United States on Sunday, January 3 on PBS.
