In a preview video for an upcoming episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter" released Friday David Letterman is shown calling his late night host rival Jay Leno the "most insecure" person he ever encountered.

Sitting down with Winfrey, Letterman's comment was as follows: "The fact that he is also maybe the most insecure person I have ever known ... I could never reconcile that."

Letterman then called Leno "unusual" but also praised the "Tonight Show" host, saying "I think [Jay] is the funniest guy I've ever known. Just flat out."

"Just the funniest, the smartest, a wonderful observationist and very appealing as a comic," he added.

The entire interview airs on OWN on Jan. 6. Click here to watch the interview's preview clip.

Leno and Letterman have been rivals for years, ever since Leno once again became the host of the "Tonight Show" instead of Letterman in in 2010. Their late night shows also air at the same time so they in some ways compete for viewers attention as well.

In 2003, as an attempt to make amends, Leno told ContactMusic.com, "I owe my career to Dave. It has been 11 years and everybody's rich, everybody's successful. Come on." In 2009, Leno admitted in a GQ Magazine interview that he wrote a letter to Letterman to try to end the feud between them. He claimed the dispute is mainly one-sided, with Letterman refusing to forgive and move past the resentment. However, the two are able to joke about their rivalry.

In 2010, Letterman, Winfrey and Leno teamed up for a commercial that aired during the Super Bowl. The ad showed Letterman and Leno sharing a couch watching the Super Bow, with Winfrey seated between them trying to make peace.

"Now, Dave, be nice," Winfrey urged. Then Leno replied that Letterman is only complaining "because I'm here," and Letterman follows by mocking what Leno ad just said.

The ad was a nod to the 2007 Super Bowl commercial with only Letterman and Winfrey watching the game.
