According to new reports, Sony is planning on reviving the Men in Black franchise for a trilogy.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the producers of the franchise, Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, revealed that development for the movie had begun. "We're in the middle of it. It's very active," said Parkes.

But here's the bad news, Will Smith won't be returning for this one. MacDonald added that it will be reinvented as a trilogy.

The producers' latest project was adapting Malala Yousafzai's story for film. The movie, He Named Me Malala, was screened ahead of its Oct. 2 release at the Toronto Film Festival.

Although Smith might not be returning for this mega franchise he is going to be involved in another major revival from the Nineties.

The Fresh Prince will be coming to TV again, and Smith will be helming the project, albeit probably only in the capacity of a producer.

TVLine reported that the development of the reboot of Fresh Prince of Bel Air is only in its initial stages and co-producers include James Lassiter, Caleeb Pinkett and Jada Pinkett-Smith. The iconic show which premiered in 1990, launched Smith's acting career and carved a very special place in pop culture. Interestingly enough, the show seems to be returning at a relevant time, especially with the recent debate about race in America and also a degree of dissatisfaction with the representation of African-Americans on television. The whole idea of Smith and crew revisiting that dialogue with oodles of wit and humor would be undoubtedly refreshing.

The last film in the Men in Black series was released in May 2012.

Here's the trailer for the first:
