Samsung Gear VR owners are close to experiencing a new TV show for their virtual reality device, a new offering from the makers of AMC zombie series The Walking Dead. The eleven part reality thriller, titled Gone and created by Skybound Entertainment, is an exclusive Gear VR TV show. As Variety reports, Gone will be available for viewing within Samsung's Milk VR video app on Dec. 15. Creators emphasize that the upcoming TV show is not an interactive video game or multiple-choice adventure.

Shot with a custom-made VR camera to support 360 degree video recording, Gone is described as a groundbreaking production. Providing Gear VR viewers with a unique virtual reality experience, the show manages to combine a linear narrative with an interactive "world". Viewers can look around the environment 360 degrees during each scene and as the story unfolds, and they can zoom in on "hot-spots" to unlock more details. To pull this innovative show off, Samsung and Skybound tapped Wevr, a Venice-based VR startup, for its expertise in VR production.

"You are being challenged by things that appear in front of you. You are on a bit of a scavenger hunt," said Matt Apfel, Vice President for Content Strategy at Samsung. He explains that users can alter their vantage points, like teleporting sans time traveling. It sounds similar to Rihanna's ANTIdiaRy virtual reality game and short film, where viewers can tilt their phone to look around a room and zoom in on objects only to be taken to another scene.
