Since the tragic events in December 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, Piers Morgan has been on a dedicated campaign pushing for stricter gun laws. He has interviewed guests from all walks, from members of the NRA to school teachers in order to create genuine discourse on the hotly debated topic.

Morgan may have met his match on Monday Feb. 4., when he dropped in on Ted Nugent in Katy, Texas to discuss his opposition on gun control. Nugent, 64, is not only a legendary rock musician, but a strong advocate for guns as he says guns are inanimate tools that don’t commit crime in America.

“It’s a simple inanimate tool that tens of millions of American families own, that have never caused a problem, never had an accident and will never commit a crime, ” he said.

Morgan questioned Nugent on why there is a need for firearms at all.

“I think you’re obsessed with guns, “ Nugent told Morgan. “99.9% of the gun owners of America are wonderful people that you are hanging around with here today. Perfectly safe. Perfectly harmless. Wonderful, loving, giving, generous, caring people. Would you leave us the hell alone!” Morgan vowed to never leave Nugent or anyone who carries fire arms alone because there is a debate to be had.

Probing further, Morgan asked Nugent to give his opinion on President Obama’s recent gun proposals. Implying that the President was re-elected by a clue-less majority he said, “I don’t agree with President Obama on any of this.” Nugent further backed his claim that America will be safer as long as people are allowed to carry semi-automatic weapons. “Absolutely. An armed society is a polite society,” he said.

Morgan’s explosive interview comes in the wake of several shootings around the U.S. in 2012. One of the most tragic of the string of gun violence occurred when 20-year-old Adam Lanza killed 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut in December 2012. Of the deceased, twenty were children age 6- 7 years old.
