During her appearance on the Today show Thursday, Justin Bieber's mother Pattie Mallette talked about her son's relationship with Selena Gomez and any hopes of them reconciling in the future.

Mallette was on the morning talk show to promote her film Crescendo I about Beethoven's mother and her attempted abortion, however, the conversation turned toward her pop star son and his public relationship with Gomez. The young couple was rumored to split following a feud they had while on vacation celebrating the New Year's holiday.

"Everybody watches his personal life, we know about this relationship with Selena. I don't know if moms get a vote, but are you hoping they keep it going?" Savannah Guthrie asked.

Mallette responded by saying, "You know, I just try and support whatever he's wanting and I think she's a sweetheart, and whatever they decide is great."

In her 2012 book Nowhere But Up, Mallette talked about struggling to bring up her son in the music industry. She said once he turned 18, the Boyfriend singer branched out on his own and got into some trouble along the way.

"It's tough letting go and letting our kids make the mistakes that they need to make," she said on Today. "And I just have to trust that he's made good decisions in the past and hopefully he's learned from some of my mistakes."

Rumors circulated the couple got back together after Gomez was photographed leaving Bieber's California home early morning on Feb. 2. She was escorted home, while holding suitcases, by one of Bieber's drivers.

Also on Feb. 2, Bieber joined Gomez for the girl band YLA's private concert in West Hollywood. A source said Gomez did not arrive at the concert with Bieber but YLA band member Brooke Adams tweeted about the Bieber-Gomez sighting.

"No big deal. Bieber and Gomez sitting front seat at our first show. Musta been the music," she wrote.
