Daniel Day-Lewsi took home the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 85th Annual Academy Awards, which aired live on Sunday from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

NOMINEES:

Bradley Cooper, Silver Linings Playbook

Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln

Hugh Jackman, Les Miserables

Joaquin Phoenix, The Master

Denzel Washington, Flight

Cooper and Jackman both received their first ever Oscar nomination this year for their film roles. Jackman, along with fellow Les Miserables cast members, performed a musical tribute on Sunday to the revival of big-screen musicals during the last decade. Others who performed in the tribute included Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Hudson, Russell Crowe, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jennifer Hudson, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit and Samantha Banks.

Phoenix was nominated for a Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar in 2006 for Walk the Line and Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 2001 for Gladiator. Washington won two Academy Awards before: in 1990 for Glory and in 2002 for Training Day.

Lincoln led this year's nominations, including nods for Best Picture, Best Director for Steven Spielberg, and acting honors for Day-Lewis, Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones.

Days before the Academy Awards, Indiewire posted its prediction that Day-Lewis will win the Best Actor award because it is "hard to image anyone not voting" for the actor's "remarkable" work portraying the 16th president of the United States. His win made him the first actor ever to win three Oscars in this category.

Policymic agreed that Day-Lewis will take home the award, as well as The New York Times.
