Ray (Liev Schreiber) and Abby (Paula Malcolmson) have one of the most unconventional marriages on television, the two are open to see whomoever they please, albeit with a great degree of implosive hurt to the other, but things got a bit more twisted in the last season of Ray Donovan.

Will Katie Holmes Be Back For Season 4?

In season 3, Abby hinted at an involvement with Ray's brother Terry (Eddie Marsen) and it was quite the shocker for fans.

In an interview showurnner David Hollander revealed that the two won't actually be taking it forward in season 4. He did confirm that the two had genuine feelings for each other and also that the two being desperately lonely drew them together.

Which Characters Are Set To Return In Season 4?

"In talking to Eddie this year, he made it clear to me that a lot of his internal monologue was channeling the voice of Terry's mother - the morality, the center, the judge, the caregiver... So I think Terry was providing comfort and love [to Abby] and that slipped a little toward the loneliness. But it's not a triangulated love story. Terry is not going to steal Abby from Ray," he said. "He will always regret [kissing her]. And, in a way, Terry will perceive what he did as one of the reasons he got shot."

But could this be the straw that breaks the camel's back when it comes to Ray and Abby's marriage? In an interview with Variety once, Schreiber had suggested that they will most likely never separate, no matter how bad things get.

"Ray is the kind of person who would die for his family," Schreiber said. "I don't know that his marriage can ever truly be over. As bad as it gets, as bad as he behaves, he'll never be able to separate himself from it. Whether or not they're living under the same roof, he'll always be married to Abby."

Season 4 of Ray Donovan will feature 12 one hour episodes and is expected to begin production in 2016.
