Dave Mirra took his life weeks ago, and in a new blog entry, he's honored by a man who looked up to him for many, many years.

Speaking to fans in an emotional blog post, BMXer Nigel Sylvester recalled the moment he met Mirra for the first time after idolizing him as a child.

"I was just a young ambitious rider on the NYC BMX scene trying to create a name for myself when I got approached by Glenn Milligan who was producing a BMX video called 'FLIPSIDE,'" Sylvester wrote in a post for Hype Beast. "He asked me to join the video and the trip included traveling down to Greenville, North Carolina to meet and ride with Mirra. I can still recall the nervousness that took over me as we walked into Mirra’s private facility."

Weeks later, after Sylvester's first meeting with Mirra, he received a phone call from Mirra, informing him that he wanted to sign him to his new bike company, Mirra Co. In that moment, Sylvester's life was changed forever.

"Dave Mirra was more than just a hero and an amazing bike rider," Sylvester continued. "He was more than just the man that helped change my life. What many people don’t know is that he impacted a generation of young kids to dream vividly and do the unthinkable. He was a family man, a teacher, a giver, and he will undoubtedly be remembered forever."
