Well, the Academy did hire Chris Rock to host the Oscars again to get attention.

Rock took the stage at the 88th Academy Awards under a cloud of controversy. If you were unaware due to that boulder you've been living under, many had a problem with the lack of diversity in this year's oscar nominees (the second year in a row). The issue sparked a hashtag-heavy name #OscarsSoWhite and Rock confronted the issue right out the gate.

"I counted at least 15 black people in that montage" Rock said as he took the stage after the introductory montage.

"If they nominated hosts, I wouldn't get this job," he said a little while later.

Rock also referenced the pressure for him to boycott as host. "I thought about quitting," he admitted, "but I didn't want to lose another job to Kevin Hart."

Rock went on to question the sudden concern over diversity in Academy nomination and drop such gems as "Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna's panties" and "Hollywood is Sorority racist."

In a more serious moment, Rock hit the nail on the head by explaining that black actors "just want opportunities."
