Ed Reed, a nine-time Pro Bowl safety who has played all 11 seasons of his career with the Baltimore Ravens, is headed to Houston, according to NFL.com's Albert Breer.

After spending Wednesday with his family, Reed informed the Texans and Breer of his intentions. Reed reportedly texted Breer that the deal has not been completed but that he will be signing with the Texans. The news report said Reed and the team are working on a two-year pact.

Breer also received a text message from Texans linebacker Brian Cushing that read "Wow-So pumped. Playing with a guy I grew up idolizing."

Statistically, the 34-year-old safety is one of the best defensive players of all-time; Reed has intercepted 61 passes, returned seven of his picks for touchdowns, forced 11 fumbles, recovered 13 and recorded 612 tackles, according to Pro-footballreference.com. He has also notched nine postseason interceptions in 15 games.

Part of Baltimore's decision to let Reed walk was his age, but an examination of Reed's 2012 statistics indicates he's still got some gas in the tank. Reed had four interceptions last season and returned one for a touchdown. He recovered three fumbles made 58 tackles and also picked off a Colin Kaepernick pass in the Super Bowl, which Baltimore went on to win 34-31.

After taking home the Lombardi trophy and inking quarterback Joe Flacco to the richest contract in NFL history (six years, $120.6 million), the Ravens have seen their championship team get torn down. Future Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis retired, linebackers Paul Kruger and Dannelle Ellerbe left to the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins, respectively, cornerback Cary Williams bolted to the Philadelphia Eagles and they released safety Bernard Pollard for salary cap relief.

Upon being informed that Reed was going to the Texans, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh texted Breer saying, "Ed is a great friend and player. I will always appreciate our time together, along with what we were able to accomplish."
