The presidential candidate said black women are "change makers and pathmakers and ground shakers." Clinton said her life has been changed by strong black women leaders, including Marian Wright Edelman, the president and founder of the Children's Defense Fund, the late poet and author Maya Angelou and the late civil rights activist Dorothy Height.

Clinton introduced a video honoring Beverly Bond, the founder of Black Girls Rock.

Attendees at the awards show included singers Rihanna, Monica Brown, Kelly Rowland and others.
