Many fans of the action-packed Bourne films have wondered how the series would continue after Matt Damon decided not to sign on for a fourth movie.

On Wednesday, fans of the franchise got to see their first peek of the movie, as Universal Pictures released the trailer for The Bourne Legacy.

The new film has Jeremy Renner in the lead role playing a new character, Aaron Cross.

Director Tony Gilroy said in 2010 that while Damon's character, Jason Bourne, would not be in the new film "he's very much alive."

Renner said the movie leaves open the possibility that Bourne could return.

The new film also stars Joan Allen, Albert Finney and Ed Norton. The film hits theaters August 3.
