The Once Upon a Time show runners explain why the upcoming season 5 finale is called "An Untold Story."

The two-hour season finale event will be addressing some untold stories. Series co-creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz spoke recently about introducing new characters and bringing back some old ones for the finale.

"To us, an untold story means it hasn't been finished yet," Kitsis explained to Entertainment Weekly, of the season finale title. "And it's been pushed pause on. Similar to when we met our characters in Storybrooke, they had untold stories, because many of them still had to find their happiness. The curse pushed pause. I can promise you there will be no curse in the finale."

Longtime fans of Once Upon a Time will likely be very happy to hear that there will be no curse that reverses or erases the progress many characters have made. But is Kitsis also implying that some characters may get closer to their own personal happy endings? Only time will tell.

Horowitz said that the season finale is "not all about New York and it's not all about Storybrooke," adding, "There are other elements we're excited to unveil in the season finale."

One of those elements will be the introduction of the Groundsman (Hank Harris) and the Warden (Sam Witwer). Harris and Witwer's characters have been hyped up significantly in the weeks leading up to this finale, with many indications that they will have some importance moving forward in the show.

The ABC finale synopsis teases that Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin), David (Josh Dallas), Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) and Zelena (Rebecca Mader) are all imprisoned are must deal with "two very disturbed individuals that may give Gold [Robert Carlyle] a run for his money." Is this referring to the Groundsman and the Warden? It seems likely, and if the synopsis is any indication, they may be the scariest villains yet.

The Once Upon a Time season 5 finale begins at a special time, 7 p.m. ET/PT, on ABC.
