If Prince fans have their way, singer Madonna will not do his tribute at this year’s Billboard Music Awards.

Interestingly enough, the awards show signed Madonna as the only performer for the big moment. But fans have gone from shutting her down to social media to actually launching a petition on Change.org.

So far, 5, 961 people have signed the document that reads in part, “We cannot let Madonna be the main and only artist tributing Prince during the 2016 Billboard Awards. Please sign and share this petition so that we can get a proper tribute on May 22, 2016. Timing is tight! Spread the word.”
In their defense, it looks like they don’t have a problem with Madonna doing the tribute. They just don’t want her to be the only one. In a typical case, a late iconic artist of Prince’s caliber will get a group of people to honor them at an awards show. Still, fans commented with who they think would do a better job than Madonna.

“There are so many artists who are actually relevant and more importantly, part of his RECENT narrative. Where is Janelle Monae? Where are Wendy and Lisa? Where’s Sheila E? Madonna has no place here.”

Another added, “Prince deserves a better artist to give him a proper tribute. Lenny Kravitz, Mint Condition, Sheila E, Chaka Khan.”

Still, Prince and Madonna could have been close friends after he made two appearances on her Like A Prayer album back in 1989. They also did a hit called Love Song together.
