Mike Ybarra, partner director for Microsoft's Windows and Xbox platforms, has incited a lot of speculation among fans on Tuesday, after the executive posted a cryptic tweet that seemed to suggest that the tech giant would be announcing something huge come Wednesday.

With rumors circulating that Microsoft would be announcing a new console next month at E3 2016, it was understandable why fans were immediately piqued by Ybarra's tweet.

Of course, with the tweet seemingly pertaining to something very important to the Windows and Xbox platforms, many were quick to speculate that the tech giant would be announcing the first concrete details of its rumored upcoming console, the alleged challenger to Sony's PlayStation 4 Neo, the rumored Xbox Two.

As it turned out, the announcement that Ybarra was referring to was the release of the popular FPS game, Call of Duty: Black Ops, on Xbox One backward compatibility. Indeed, as Microsoft moves towards a universal gaming platform, the backward compatibility of its most popular titles are among the most important factors that must be addressed by the tech giant.

While a number of fans were disappointed that the announcement Ybarra was pertaining to did not address Microsoft's rumored upcoming console, many were nonetheless grateful for the release of COD: Black Ops for Xbox One backward compatibility. After all, Black Ops is definitely one of the best titles in the Call of Duty franchise, and having the game run on the Xbox One is always a welcome development.

With regards to the rumored Xbox Two or Xbox One Slim, as many fans have speculated, it seems like Microsoft is really keeping a tight lid on the project. Nevertheless, with E3 set for next month, fans of the Xbox ecosystem would surely get something very concrete from the tech giant. Otherwise, Microsoft might once more find itself on the losing end of the battle against Sony's formidable PlayStation 4.
