Alisan Porter may have won The Voice, but will she buck the trend of many of the show's winners failing to find mainstream success?

It's no secret that The Voice has struggled to create a real music superstar since its inception in 2011. Many great singers have come and gone in the show's 10-season history, but the average person who doesn't watch the show would probably struggle to name more than one or two singers that have found success.

There have been a variety of issues attributed to this lack of success over the years. Season 5 winner Tessanne Chin released an album shortly after being crowned the show's champion but reportedly received barely any promotion by her record company. Season 7 winner Craig Wayne Boyd had a dispute with his label, Dot Records/Big Machine Label Group, and has yet to put out an album post-Voice.

Adam Levine, one of the show's coaches, has even spoken on this issue, suggesting inadequate management post-show is largely to blame.

"I'll be relatively cryptic about what I think the big problem is," he said on The Howard Stern Show. "When the baton is passed post-Voice, there's some problems. People take over after we do this great job of building these people up on the show. There's some real issues there."

He continued, "The show ends, and they're like, 'OK, they don't matter to me anymore.' This is how they feel on the other end. I don't understand why they don't care. That's what drives me absolutely bonkers. And then it makes me feel defeated on my end because there's really not much I can do."

A few contestants have been successful on a minor level, including Cassadee Pope, Danielle Bradbery and most recently, Jordan Smith (plus indie darling Melanie Martinez) but otherwise, there aren't many shining examples the show can point to as true successes.

Now, with a powerhouse vocalist like Porter ready to record her album, it will be interesting for many to see if the right promotion is given towards her career. Porter said on The Today Show Thursday that she's ready to "really do what I came to do, which is be in the music business and make an awesome album."

Porter's new album does not yet have a release date.
