Anderson Cooper is reportedly interested in co-hosting Live! with Kelly Ripa, but why at the show's producers hesitant?

As the hunt to find Ripa's new Live! co-host continues, Cooper has apparently expressed his interest in the job. Sources told Entertainment Tonight recently that Cooper wants to do both Live! and his nightly CNN show Anderson Cooper 360.

However, it is unclear if chiefs at CNN and ABC even want him to co-host. Considering this is a huge election year, Cooper will devoting a lot of time to CNN, potentially making his hypothetical time with Live! less consistent.

"There are others they have their eye on," a source told ET.

Cooper previously addressed rumors that he might become the new permanent co-host shortly after Michael Strahan announced his exit from the show.

"Look, I'm very happy at CNN," Cooper said. "It would be a dream to work with Kelly, but nobody's offering anything."

One of the co-hosts ABC may be looking at is Rob Lowe, though the actor suggested he didn't want to compete with Cooper for the job.

"Listen, man, I don't want to go up against Anderson Cooper," Lowe quipped. "I don't know if I'm going to go back as an actual guest host [on Live!] yet. ... You never know! You never know."

He did note, though, that he had a great time guest co-hosting with Ripa previously.

"I hosted it with Kelly and had the time of my life," he said. "I love her ... I love being able to talk to an audience every morning like that and just being fun, counter-punching, being silly, and talking about cool stuff."

Live! with Kelly airs weekdays. Check your local listings for timelsot and channel info.
